Seriously though, I have always hated this thing that my Dad quite simply termed as ~ 'Sheep Minded'. Basically, it refers to people getting exposed to mainstream thinking and losing their unique individuality and then forcing others into the same trap. Synonyms include Herd Mentality, Lemming, and Mob Mentality, but basically, it means enthusiastically and mindlessly being part of a crowd when you might not even agree completely with their opinion, but for the love of not coming off as the weird one, choosing 'I might as well go with it'.
The most straightforward way for me to explain this is through colors. Yes, you read it right. Pink is for girls and black is for guys, it is one of the long-established nonsense we have all been hearing for quite a long time now. At least I seem to have heard it a lot. And boy, doesn't it annoy me to no end when they stare at me for liking both pink and blue, no pun intended. Then there is other thing where they go like, Broo you picked purple, I don't know isn't it like too loud? or BrUh white is so uh plain? and grey is gReY? I still remember having once been dragged back into the house by my very irate mother because I dared to go to a function in pure sparkling black.
I mean can we not? What did the colors even do to you man? Do you really gotta assign them, freaking colors? a gender?
Another trusfrating thing is how they will absolutely not allow you to be yourself. How society pulls a "You are a girl, why would you want to cartwheel?" card or a "Dude why do you have mascara on? Only girls do that!! Did you just change your gender or something? Haha" card
Haha. Funny. Not.
Girls can't wear shorts on a freaking hot day but boys can. Boys can't wear makeup to look good, but girls can. Girls cant go anywhere without carrying at least a bottle of pepper spray, but boys be swinging their arms and striding along to the grocery shop in the next neighborhood just like that. Guys be called strong while mothers who single-handily lift the entire couch to sweep underneath be like - no sire I don't even exist. Girls who can fix bulbs and cars are wEiRd and guys who are gentle are dEliCaTe. Girls cant like cars and bikes and stuff and guys who like flowers and paint their nails are looked at like they just crashed unexpectedly from Mars but hey you still gotta adhere to the idiotic rules established on Earth so why arent you?
Sigh. Just typing that out was painful, I tell you.
I wish people would understand that it's possible to be bold and sassy and still slay it. I wish they would accept that duality can exist and that there's nothing wrong with it. It's only common knowledge that no human can be expected to smile and be happy for 24/7/365 days straight right? Some days someone is moody and some other day they might make you feel annoyed with their hyper bubbliness. Some day you wake up feeling blue and choose the grey hoodie and track pants and want the world to forget about you and some other day you were the funkiest hairdo you can persuade your hair into and skip and hop all the way to your friend's place and genuinely don't care about the looks or widened eyes. Maybe someone wants to try on something new and maybe someone else wants to give up on something familiar. Both are perfectly fine and should be accepted. Because what's the fun in waking up to the same old stuff?
Now if I heard a guy saying, Huh? you don’t like hot freaking glittery pink? Are you colorblind or something? Or girl going, You don’t know how to fix a bulb? God! do you live in a cave sis?
Please I’d
hype them so much even if I was dang in the middle of my grocery shopping.
